7 things I love about New York

April 26, 2015

Just under a year ago I went to New York and I am desperate to go back. I really miss being there, it is so different to every day life in Carmarthen, don't get me wrong I love living where I live, but being in such an iconic city like NYC is surreal.

I thought today I'd share 7 things I love about New York and some photos.

1. Everything is so big. The buildings are absolutely huge, if you try to look up and see the top you feel as if you're about to fall backwards.

2. Everywhere there is something. There is absolutely something for everyone in New York: the famous sights, parks, shops etc. Everyday there is something different, you can never get bored.

3. The shops. I absolutely love the shopping experience in New York, mainly because there are so many different shops there. I'd heard so much about Forever 21, Bath & Body Works and Aeropostale from watching "beauty gurus" on YouTube, so I was so excited to actually go there myself.

4. Celebs. If you are a bit of a celebrity spotter (like me), New York is a brilliant place. On my first trip I saw Jedward walking on the same street as me and on the second I met Cher Lloyd, Ronan Keating and Daniel Radcliffe.

5. New possibilities/blogging. I don't know if I'm being cheesy, but there's a hope of being able to achieve something in New York. Everyone there is unique and it's a breath of fresh air.
You don't feel as if people are judging you as much, I was able to take so many outfit photos for my blog there without anyone lifting an eyebrow. Blogging is a big thing in America, I lost count of the amount of times I saw a blogger taking photos for their blog.

6. The closeness to home. We visited St Paul's Chapel which was the chapel where the rescue force rested during 9/11. It was crazy to see that there was a collection of police force badges from all over the world and one of them one was my local police (see photo below) 'Heddlu'

7. Finally, the iconic sites. It is mad to think that you're standing where so many huge films and TV shows have been filmed. I was able to visit the exterior of the Friends apartment, visit Waverly Place etc and it felt so odd.

Have you ever been to New York?

I hope you enjoyed today's post.

F4F#35 - My food diary (19.04.15)

April 24, 2015

Happy Friday everyone!

I am finding keeping up with my blogging schedule incredibly difficult lately as I have so much going on in my life. I am sorry if my content has been a bit rubbish, but I am trying my best :)

Today I'm doing a food diary post. Basically, sharing with you the foods I eat on a certain day.

Sunday, 19th of April 2015.

I tried incredibly hard to have a healthy eating day...

Breakfast:

A bowl of fruit & fibre with semi skimmed milk.

Lunch:

A 'left overs' salad - roasted peppers, onion, pesto, mozzarella, couscous, tomatos, salad leaves, olives & avocado.

Supper:

Salad (leaves, feta, olives, tomato), couscous, veggie bean burger, hummus/humous, pitta bread and part of a wholemeal wrap.

SNACKS -
  •
  • Pink lady apple
  • Almonds

Let me know if you'd like more posts like this!

my pet peeves

April 22, 2015

google images

Everyone has that one (or few things) that just get them down, right? I thought it would be funny to share some of mine today and see if any of you can relate.

1. "no offence" - a) when someone says something offensive and they think that by saying "no offence" they can get away with it e.g "No offence, but your hair looks really messy today"
b) when people say it before something that isn't remotely offensive to you. e.g "no offence I I don't like Katy Perry"

2. People who don't understand that Wales is a country. UCCCCH. I hate it when people assume that the UK is England, so if I'm from Wales I'm English...no,no,no I'm Welsh. (I have nothing against England)

3. When every teacher thinks the exam in their subject is the only one you have to worry about. No, I HAVE 21 EXAMS.

4. When people ask me "so, what do you eat?" because I'm a vegetarian. EVERYTHING EXCEPT FOR MEAT.

5. When people post 2 updates a day of the revision they are doing...okay we get it, you're working while I'm watching Kardashians.

I hope you had a little chuckle while reading this post or perhaps you nodded at least once? It's all a bit of fun - no offence intended or rant!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: 02

April 18, 2015

QOTW#2

One thing a lot of people struggle with is comparison. I myself, compare my abilities with those of others and it can lead to me feeling utterly pathetic. I am not as good at some things as others are, that is life. None of us are the same. If everyone was as good as each other there would be millions of Gary Barlows, millions of Jessica Ennis' & millions of Dylan Thomas'. Everyone has different talents and we should start embracing and using them talents instead of judging ourselves on things we cannot do. Keep this in mind while dealing with others too, they can't do everything as well as you and you can't do everything as well as them.

Remember if there is a talent you wish to improve on: Practice makes perfect. If you want to be a swimmer like Rebecca Adlington get down the pool and practice, practice, practice.

Oh and one final thing - you are brilliant at something.

Have a great day!

F4F#34 - What foods should I eat?

April 17, 2015

Food, Food & more FOOD.

Hi everyone. I am so sorry that I haven't posted since Sunday. I have been very busy, but I'm back!

Today I thought doing a post on good eating basics would be good informative on for the Fit4Friday series.

You need food to provide your body with energy, this energy comes in the form of calories, also combined with specific nutrients. You need -

Carbohydrates - These release instant energy, therefore have a positive short term effect.

Fats - [saturated & unsaturated] - This stores you some long term energy.

Fibre - Ensuring you are efficiently cleaning out your body, getting your bowels moving.

Vitamins - They come in so many different forms and do many good jobs all over the body.

Protein - This helps towards forming muscle and also to repair body tissue.

Minerals - These work to help regulate your metabolism.

AVOID -
Processed foods, fast food (McDonalds etc), high sugar foods, high salt foods and high saturated fat foods.

Calorie counting.
According to Web MD, these are the figures for daily calorie intake (depending on gender, age and how active you are) -

You have to remember that even if the food you are eating is healthy, if you are eating too much of it you can still put on weight.

Your portion size is key -

NHS
A great website to look at for portion size guidelines is - BUPA

Make sure that during your day you are hydrating. Drinking your water is so important as water makes up around 2/3 the weight of a healthy body. Try to avoid drinking carbonated/fizzy/soda drinks.

I hope that you've found this post to be informative in some way!
Have a lovely weekend!

Burberry Kisses {unboxing}

April 12, 2015

Thanks Jessie.

Today I'm doing my very first 'unboxing' post. I really wanted to do this because this previous week I received my Burberry Kisses sample in the post. I'm sooo excited to start wearing it!
I must say a massive thank you to Jessie from All Things Beautiful for nominating me to receive one of these - I am of course very grateful!

After being nominated you are given the opportunity to pick between 4 colours and I went for No.05, Nude Pink. I wanted to play it safe going for a pretty girly, natural colour that I can wear whenever.

The lipstick took less than a fortnight to arrive, which is pretty reasonable delivery time in my opinion!
It came in a white cardboard box which may I say looked very pretty on the inside with the photo of all the lipsticks. The actual lipstick was placed in a lipstick box - when you receive lipstick in it's own little box it does feel posh! hehe!
The actual lipstick packaging is very pretty {scroll down for photo}, a silver metallic material with the signature Burberry plaid engraved.
The lipstick itself also has the signature Burberry plaid design embossed onto it. I am more than impressed with the colour I've chosen when looking at first glance, but I am yet to try it on yet (I will review it in the future!) - {scroll down for lipstick swatch}

The Burberry kisses line includes 28 shades to choose from (£25 each).
Have a look at the colour I chose - burberry.com (nude pink) or have a look at the full range - burberry.com

I know gaining followers isn't the main reason for blogging, but when you put a lot of effort into writing posts it is nice to gain some followers as you can see that people are enjoying your content. I've been on a real stop as far as followers is concerned - I seem to gain a few and then end up losing twice as much as I gained. If you like my blog please follow my bloglovin', I do love to follow my followers back too! :)

F4F#33 - Look after your feet.

April 10, 2015

TREAT YOUR FEET.

After a few weeks of browsing, I finally purchased some new kicks for myself and I am in love!! :D

My new trainers are the Karrimor Duma 2 running shoes . I purchased them from Sports Direct at 50% off (thank goodness, as paying around £80 would have been a little (huge) stretch in my budget!).

 The write up (description):

The Karrimor Duma 2 Ladies Running Shoes are designed with deep cut flex grooves promoting a more natural stride through a smoother toe off and heel strike, complete with synthetic overlays to the upper to lock the foot down.

Having suitable, supportive and comfy footwear is essential when exercising to reduce risks of injury in the future. Having a good trainer will reduce the impact of your step and cushions it from 'heavy' landings.
Having a good trainer can make your workout experience more pleasurable and can aid you at performing from a higher level.
These trainers are great for gym based workout or for your average run - I wouldn't advise trainers like this for classes such as Zumba because they have too much grip so turning/twisting your leg with a shoe like this could put great pressure on your knee. I find these work brilliantly for walking, in the gym and in fitness classes.

I went for a bright colour as I do love to add a bit of 'bam' to my outfits - It makes working out even more fun! hehe! This trainer is available in different colours too - bright and basic.

With trainers you must also wear appropriate socks that will keep your feet comfy and secure during exercise. Mine are the Karrimor Running Socks

Description -

The Karrimor 2 pack Running Socks provide soft, underfoot comfort that is perfect for running with benefits from a padded toe and heel and an ergonomic fit. These ladies socks are also designed with a moisture wicking fabric for added comfort complete with a Fresh Guard odour neutraliser so your feet stay fresher for longer.

I have really felt a difference in the overall feel of my foot since wearing these! (+ I love the purple colour!)

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: 01

April 07, 2015

Treasure the people who actually care & don't worry about those who don't.

This is a new little series I'm going to do weekly to hopefully add a little positivity into your lives. I will post a new post every week (hopefully) on any day of the week I feel like.

This week's quote:

'Genuine people don't come around too often. If you find somebody real enough to stay true, keep them close.'

At the moment this quote is especially important to me, as recently I've had to really separate those who pretend to care from those who actually do care.
It has been a hard, hard process because people who I've given so much of time to in the past have turned out to not actually really care for me. It has been very difficult to understand that some people who you've once loved have actually just been using you for their own benefit and that isn't right, so I've had to say 'goodbye' to them and start focusing on the ones who actually love and care for me.
It is very important that we value the people who make us feel happy and cared for, because they are the important people. I am lucky to have a fair few people who are 'genuine'.

F4F#32 - Tesco / F&F Active

April 03, 2015

Check this range out.

If you haven't heard about Tesco's Active range then where the heck have you been? It's an affordable, good quality and attractive line of fitness wear. The line has a mixture of unique designs and basics. I'm not lying when I say that I have at least 6 pieces from the range.

In today's post I thought I'd share with you an outfit I put together using two pieces from the collection - sadly, the bottoms are no longer available on the website even though I got them less than a month ago, but there are plenty of other selections of patterned and basic leggings online or in store. P.s Tesco / F&F if you're reading this - I'd definitely recommend you bring these leggings back!

All pieces I've tried from the collection have supported my body during a workout and have been incredibly comfortable.

Links will be at the end of the post!

Happy April.

April 01, 2015

Please be a good month.

source

It's a new month. Everything is fresh. We have the ability to make this month however we want, it can be good or bad. Let's therefore begin the month with a clean slate and a positive attitude. If March wasn't a very good month don't let it ruin this month.

Make this a month where you get things done. Make it a month where you keep yourself healthy. Let it be a month where you enjoy and stay positive.

My goals for the month of April -

  • Eat a little healthier (No, I won't cut out chocolate for a month!)
  • Keep a clear mind - try to avoid stressing out.
  • Post regular, good quality blog posts.
  • Challenge myself physically - keep working towards my fitness goals.

What are your hopes for April?

Have a brilliant month!

Love, Eve
