Have a Brillant Year

January 04, 2015

It's Sunday. This means today is the final day of my Chrimbo holidays. I get back to my normal routine tomorrow. I've been dreading tomorrow for a few reasons for the past few days, which got me thinking; what's the point in dreading it? Tomorrow has the potential to be a brilliant day if I make it brilliant.

This lead to me thinking up the idea of this post. I mean, a lot of us get a little sad at the end of Christmas as it seems that there's a long road ahead full of work and stress etc. when really we're not thinking of the potential that the year holds. Why not make this year a brilliant year? Or as good as you can make it?

Here are some of my ideas...

1. Start fresh.
Stop dwelling on the past. It's time to learn from the ups and downs of 2014 and move on with your head held high. What's the point of holding onto the bad that happened last year? I mean, how are you supposed to move forward and be happier if you're still worrying over it?
A new year is brilliant because it's like a blank canvas and you have the ability to "paint" a beautiful year full of amazing opportunities, memories and people.

2. Remove the negative people.
Has someone been having a negative influence on your life recently? Or has been leaving you feeling utterly rubbish? I think it's time you move on. Whether their behaviour is unintentional (believe me this often occurs) it's time you start thinking about you. Fill your life with people who make you feel happy and good about yourself.
Sadly, sometimes people grow apart, it happens and it's very hard to accept, but you have to learn to move on.

3. Stay on top of things.
This is easier said than done. It's so easy to put a piece of work off for days and days. The problem with that is it all starts to pile up. Get it done and you'll feel better.
It's the same with cleaning your room. Pick up those dirty clothes and put away the fresh clothes otherwise before you know it you'll have piles of dirty washing and piles of clothes to put away.

4. Don't worry.
A lot of the time worrying is a waste of energy. What does worrying do? Well, makes you feel stressed, anxious and upset. Does it solve anything? Nope.
As hard as it can be to just 'chill' sometimes, you need to.
That exam that 'went so bad' is in the past now. You can't change your answers. If worse comes to worse, just re-sit.

5. Stay Healthy.
We all feel better after a little exercise and a healthy meal. Staying healthy food wise and fit will not only benefit you physically, but also mentally.

6. Find yourself something you love doing.
This could be watching your favourite tv show, listening to your favourite song, eating your favourite food, having a cup of tea, going shopping, going to the gym etc. Doing your favourite thing when you're feeling a little low can make you feel SO much better!

7. Do your best.
That's all you can do. Whether it be with school work, a job or even keeping to a blogging schedule. Just try your best, that's all anyone can ask of you.

8. Enjoy.
Life is too short to be wasted doing anything, but enjoying. Obviously, work hard, but make sure you give yourself some down time and some enjoyment time. Do things you love with people you love.

9. Know when to say NO.
You don't have to always do tasks for people because they can't be bothered to do it themselves or they're just using you for personal gain. If you really don't want to do something, speak up and say no. It's hard, but you'll feel better. Don't let people take advantage of you.

10. ...and say YES too.
When you want to do something, but it intimidates you or you're unsure of whether you'll be able to do it- just go for it! It could end up being amazing! Don't build up a wall of fear and self doubt, make this a year where you shine as a person.
Carpe Diem! (Seize the day!)

What are your personal goals for 2015?

Thanks for reading!

Love,
Eve xx

  1. This is such a great post and message. I'm guilty of dreading days when I know I shouldn't
